Testosterone is an important hormone for the health of both men and women. Testosterone contributes to our strength, endurance, lean muscle mass, decreased body fat, increased exercise tolerance and healthy libido. Testosterone protects against cardiovascular disease and reduces blood sugar, as well as leads to increased bone density, a decrease in cholesterol, improved skin tone, improved healing capacity, increased libido and sexual performance.
On average male testosterone levels begin dropping in the mid to late 20’s and continues to drop each year as we age. This means that our hormone production of testosterone slows down. You may have heard of the term “male menopause” in the the last few years. There are approximately 481,000 new cases of low testosterone diagnosed every year in the U.S. of men ages 40 – 69 years old.
Aging is inevitable but the good news is that low testosterone can effectively be treated through proper testosterone therapy.

Causes of Low Testosterone occur when there is a problem with the Hypothalamic Pituitary Testicular Axis, HPTA, resulting in a condition known as hypogonadism. Some additional causes of low testosterone or hypogonadism are TRT, Klinefelter Syndrome, undescended testicles, hemochromatosis, testicular trauma, cancer treatment, mumps orchitis, Kallmann Syndrome, pituitary disorders, inflammatory disease, HIV/AIDS, obesity, andropause, cardiovascular problems, chronic illness, alcoholism, cirrhosis, chronic stress, diabetes, and even some medications.

Diagnosing Low Testosterone is done through the patients’ medical history, physical exam, and laboratory evaluation. Laboratory blood testing includes FREE and Bound Testosterone Levels, Sex Hormone Binding Globulin, DHEA, FSH, LH, PSA, CBC, Liver Function and Estradoil. Diagnosis is usually confirmed when the testing returns to a total serum testosterone level near or below the established lower limit, which is generally 350 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dl). The blood test should be done in the morning, fasting and prior to daily stressors.

You could be LOW on T.

Testosterone Treatment, also known as Testosterone Replacement Therapy or TRT, is a medical treatment used to help eliminate symptoms in men and some women who have lower than average T-Serum levels. TRT uses testosterone to support deficient endogenous (self-producing) testosterone levels. Ideal testosterone replacement therapy produces and maintains physiologic serum concentrations, without significant side effects or safety concerns. Testosterone replacement should approximate the natural (endogenous) production of your own testosterone.
Testosterone (Enanthate, Cypionate, and Propionate) is approved by the U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA) to treat hypogonadism. TRT reverses the symptoms associated with hypogonadism such as low libido or lack of sex drive, fatigue, loss of muscle mass, brittle bones, and increased fat deposits around the belly and upper chest areas.
TRT can also be prescribed as a treatment for andropause, a hormone imbalance that occurs in older men, sometimes called male menopause. TRT doesn’t only support testosterone, but when given correctly can also trigger the gonads to produce more testosterone naturally.
Men that start testosterone therapy have more energy, feel healthier and younger because TRT restores their testosterone to optimal levels.
