WHAT IS SEMAGLUTIDE?
The FDA approved, in June of 2021, an exciting new drug called Semaglutide for weight loss. Is Semaglutide the same as Ozempic?

Yes! Ozempic and Wegovy are two drugs approved for Type 2 Diabetes and Weight Loss Management. They both are made by Novo Nordisk Pharmaceutical. Previously, this medication had only been used for Type 2 Diabetics, but it has been found to be extremely effective for weight loss in non-Diabetics.

This is a once per week injection which, when combined with a healthy diet and exercise, yields amazing results in adults. Semaglutide made headlines during the clinical trial phase when patients reported losing 15-18% of their total body weight in less than 1 year. This is significantly higher than what is typically seen with other weight loss medications.

HOW DOES SEMAGLUTIDE WORK?
Semaglutide works by imitating a hormone called Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1). Semaglutide stimulates the GLP-1 receptors in the brain to affect the part of the brain that controls appetite and food intake.

WHAT DOES SEMAGLUTIDE DO TO YOUR BODY?
This injection lowers your blood sugar by encouraging insulin release and stopping sugar production. Semaglutide also slows the speed at which food leaves your stomach. The result: you feel fuller, longer, you eat less, and you lose weight. The Semaglutide weight loss dose is increased gradually over approximately 20 weeks to avoid side effects. The most common Semaglutide weight loss side effects are nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, headache, and fatigue.

WHY SHOULD I USE SEMIGLUTIDE?
According to JAMA author and University of Alabama Professor of Medicine Timothy Garvey, M.D., “This is a game-changer. More than 50 percent of trial participants are losing 15 percent of their body weight, and anywhere between a third and 40 percent of participants are losing 20 percent of their body weight. That is beginning to close the gap with bariatric surgery.” Nearly 70% of American adults are obese or at least overweight which can cause serious health issues: heart disease, stroke diabetes, certain types of cancer, and even death.

DOES SEMAGLUTIDE GIVE YOU ENERGY?
Semaglutide is not a stimulant like Caffeine or other appetite controlling medications. However, because being overweight lowers energy levels and quality of life in general, as you lose weight your energy increases the pounds decrease the energy increases.
